Various units serve different purposes in combat. Buildings enable creating more advanced units or researching technologies for improving weapons, shields, and other abilities.
The working units are Human Peasants and Orc Peons they can harvest lumber, mine gold, or build and repair buildings. The goal of most scenarios is to destroy the enemy. However, fortunes take a turn for the worse when the Orcs assassinate King Llane, sack the City of Stormwind (the capital of the Kingdom of Azeroth), and drive the human population northward into the Kingdom of Lordaeron, setting the story for the game's sequel, Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness.Īs with most real-time strategy computer games of the time, Warcraft: Orcs & Humans features two opposing factions: the noble Humans and the savage Orcs. The Orcs begin a very swift invasion of the Kingdom of Azeroth but are, at first, beaten back while Medivh himself is slain, putting an end to his quest for power and domination. Driven to madness with a lust for power, he offers the world of Azeroth to the bloodthirsty Orcs in exchange for the titan's powers and unwavering loyalty of the Orcish Horde. The human mage Medivh, scion of a mortal human and one of the Last Guardians, comes under the influence of the corrupted former titan Sargeras (although it is revealed that he was possessed).
